At Cornerstone, we believe the Scriptures show the importance of team leadership. There is no room for a ‘one man show’. We see this in the relationship of the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – and we see this in what the Scriptures teach concerning church leadership, as well as the whole body of Christ.
We specifically believe that the appointed leaders of a local church are to be elders (also known as overseers) and deacons. The elders are called to lead, shepherd and oversee the local body and the deacons are called to be a strong support in their leading-servant roles. The Bible speaks of these leadership roles in 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4.
Below is Cornerstone’s team of leaders:
Scott Lencke (elder-pastor) – Scott was raised in the Memphis, TN, area of the U.S. He came to Christ in January of 1997 while in his last year of high school. He holds a BA in Communications from the University of Memphis and an MA in Theological Studies from Covenant Theological Seminary, while also having the opportunity to study music ministry for two years at Visible School. He has had the opportunity of teaching in ministry colleges in both the US and UK, as well as travelling into other nations to teach and train God’s people. His wife, Catherine (Cat), is a beautiful English rose with a smile that lights up his heart. They were married in December 2006 and they are best friends. Cat enjoys photography and secretly wants to be a home interior designer. Their first little one, Caleb, was born on 21 June 2009. You can check out Scott’s blog by clicking here.
Samuel de Andrade (deacon) – Samuel was raised in São Paulo, Brazil. He was born into a Christian family where his father, as well as some of his uncles, were pastors in the Baptist church in Brazil. He graduated from Institute Edison of Electronic Science with a focus as an electronic technician and holds a BA in Theology from the Theological Free Methodist University. Samuel has had the opportunity to serve his former church in Brazil for some years as an elder, as well as within the Brazilian Christian Community in Brussels, Belgium. His loved wife Jaqueline (Jacky) is social worker and has a passion to help people. They were married in December 1996 and they have two kids: Davi, their nine-year old son, and Giovana, sweet GiGi, who is just about to turn two.
Karen Silence (deacon) – Karen and her two younger brothers were raised in Overijse, Belgium, in a loving and caring family. At the age of 14, Karen joined a friend on a Christian summer camp and was amazed by the love, care and joy of the other children around. They learned about the love of God and Jesus while also spending time reading the Bible. It really moved her heart and was the start of a new journey in Christ! Since then, Karen had been a part of several churches in the area, but she and her family found their way into the Cornerstone community where she now serves on the leadership team. After finishing high school, Karen studied chemistry and completed her studies with a PhD. Her work entails managing the development of medicines within a pharmaceutical company. She is married to her lovely husband, Bart, and they have two great sons, Bram and Stijn.
Cornerstone also works closely with a team of leaders from Lifelink International.
